Santiago de Compostela is the capital of the autonomous community of Galicia in Spain and one of the largest pilgrimage centers in the Christian world.

This city has been a high place of Christian pilgrimage since the Middle Ages. Today, it is one of its main activities to welcome and allow pilgrims to stay within its walls.

To go

The traditional way used by pilgrims is walking from St. Jean Pied-de-Port in France ie 780 km, on the Way of Saint James  (last updated Nov 2018) . It is just as traditional to arrive on the back of a donkey or horse, although cycling is becoming popular.
