The Madeiran table
Funchal is first and foremost a fishing port and the curious should not fail to visit the workers' market (Mercado dos Lavadores), a semi-covered market where fruits and vegetables abound but where tuna and swordfish are also sold (espadarte ) and especially espadas, these "swordfish" from the depths which are the delight of Madeiran tables.
