Urban centers

Baltic side

  • Aalborg - Fourth city of country, Aalborg is an industrial city with little trace of its past. Løkken-Vrå. 45 km from Aalborg, on the shores of the North Sea is the seaside resort of Løkken-Vrå.
  • Billund - 25 km further east of Jelling, Billund is the headquarters of LEGO, the manufacturer of the famous assembled plastic bricks. To the delight of the little ones, the company has set up the Legoland theme park in Billund.
  • Ebeltoft - Located on the peninsula of Djursland, Ebeltoft and the surrounding beaches attract crowds of vacationers during the summer. The most famous beach is that of Grenå.
  • Hobro - Pleasant village of 10,000 inhabitants in whose surroundings are the ruins of Fyrkat, the oldest of the Viking fortresses.
  • Jelling - Capital of a Viking kingdom, Jelling is just a village of 3,000 inhabitants with some traces of its past. Among these, the two "runestones" inscribed in the list of World Heritage Sites.
  • Kolding - Dominated by the Koldinghus, a medieval fortress now converted into a museum, Kolding is a vibrant city of 80,000 inhabitants.
  • Randers - City of 60,000 inhabitants, Randers deserves a stop for its well-kept zoological garden.
  • Silkeborg - About fifty km east of Århus, Silkeborg lies on the banks of a lake and offers its visitors pleasant excursions in the surrounding woods.
  • Skagen - Located at the extreme northern tip of Jutland, where the waters of the Baltic and the North Sea meet, Skagen is very popular although bathing in its waters is not allowed due to strong sea currents.
  • Sønderborg - Destroyed by the bombings of World War II, Sønderborg presents itself to visitors with a completely modern look. The beaches on the nearby island of Als are very popular in summer.
  • Vejle - Known for the church of San Nicola in whose transept there is a glass case that holds the mummified body of the so-called "Woman of Haraldskær", who lived in the 6th century BC. C. and found in 1835 in a bog in Jutland.
  • Viborg
  • Århus - Second city of the country, Århus is a university center with interesting museums. In summer, life is on the "Moesgård Strand" beach, 10km to the south.

Western side (North Sea)

  • Esbjerg - Industrial port, Esbjerg does not have many monuments but it is nevertheless an interesting destination for the way of life of its residents.
  • Hanstholm - A modern port with no particular interest. In its vicinity is the Klitmøller beach very popular with surfers for the strong winds that blow there.
  • Hvide Sande (White Sands) — [1] - Fishing port on the Ringkøbing lagoon surrounded by kilometer-long sands.
  • Ribe - With a small, well-kept historic center, Ribe holds the distinction of being the oldest city in Denmark, a park dedicated to the Vikings and the way their life was carried out, complete with a faithfully reconstructed village, has been set up nearby.
  • Rømø - Characterized by long beaches that are suitable for horseback riding, the island of Rømø attracts thousands of tourists during the summer.
  • Tønder - Founded in the thirteenth century, Tønder is a village of about 10,000 inhabitants devoted to tourism. In its vicinity is Schackenborg Castle, a royal residence.

Itineraries

The itinerary takes place on the stretch of the E45 that goes from the borders with the Germany (Padborg) to the port of Frederikshavn, where you can embark for Oslo or Gothenburg (Sweden). In total there are 352 km. The places of interest that are encountered along the route and its branches are briefly described below: Sønderborg, Kolding, Vejle, Jelling, Billund, Århus, Ebeltoft, Silkeborg, Randers, Viborg, Hobro, Rebild National Park is Aalborg.

After Aalborg the road splits: the E45 leads to Frederikshavn, a port with regular maritime connections with Sweden is Norway but without interest as the E39 ends at Hirtshals, a center of 6,000 inhabitants with a long maritime tradition behind it and one of the largest aquariums in Europe.
