Frederikshavn is a port city on the Kattegatt in North Jutland. It is particularly popular with holidaymakers because of the clean beaches with weak waves. The number of nights in the Frederikshavn Commune, to which also the places Skagen and Sæby belong to over a million annually. Many use the numerous holiday homes and campsites. Despite the relatively small population of 23,000, the city offers many leisure activities. There are a variety of excursion destinations in the area, such as the headland Grenen. There are trips to the ferry port Gothenburg and Oslo possible.

First settlement
The area around Frederikshavn has been inhabited for many millennia. The location on the Kattegat was decisive for the first residential areas in what is now Frederikshavn. So inshore fishing was possible. There are archaeological finds from the Stone Age and the Viking Age in the urban area, including numerous burial mounds and dwellings from the Iron Age.
Two well-known ship finds date from the Middle Ages: A ship that was found in a river in the city area. It was dated to 1164 and is similar in construction to a Viking ship. There were mansions like that Bangsbo Herregård from the 14th century, which is now a museum, and the Knivholt Herregård, which is used for numerous large events such as concerts. Fladstrand
Frederikshavn went out of the fishing settlement Fladstrand emerged. The still preserved huts Fiskerklyngen are still preserved and worth seeing, they date from the 16th century. Fladstrand becomes Frederikshavn
Fladstrand grew rapidly and, thanks to the fortified and militarily secured harbor, it became an important trading post in northern Denmark. In 1818 Fladstrand received through King Frederik VI. the Kaufstadtsrechte and was renamed Frederikshavn. From 1852 Frederikshavn received a ferry port, in 1871 the rail link with standard gauge was created.
With the onset of industrialization in Denmark, the port was expanded and shipyards with suppliers were founded. The number of residents in Frederikshavn doubled between 1870 and 1890 as a result of the workers who moved there. The existing Fladstrand Kirke became too small, so that from 1890 to 1892 a much more representative church with over 1,100 seats was built.
Frederikshavn in the world wars
During the First World War, around 300 soldiers were stationed in Frederikshavn to protect the Kattegat coast. In addition, defenses were built on the hill Pikkerbakken created.
During the Second World War, Frederikshavn was occupied by German troops in 1940. They built bunkers and defenses on Pikkerbakken and on North beach. The port was used as a base for warships that were used in battles on the Skagerrak and against Norway. An airfield was laid out west of Frederikshavn. Numerous bunkers, anti-tank trenches and mine barriers were built at the port and around the city. Frederikshavn received the status of one Defense area. Only three other cities in Denmark received this status. Field Marshal Rommel inspected the facilities in Frederikshavn in 1943. Of the 350 systems in the Frederikshavn city area, around 250 are still preserved today and can be used in the Bangsbo Fort can be visited. In May 1945 Denmark was liberated by British troops. The consequences of the war are also in the cemetery of the Fladstrand Kirke to see, on which there are numerous war graves.
Frederikshavn's recent history
After the war, Frederikshavn continued to grow. The hospital was expanded and is now one of the largest in northern Denmark. The shipyard industry was revitalized, and some of the shipyards now also build wind turbines. The city has a large port with ferries to Norway and Sweden. There is also a small ferry to the island of Læsø.

- 1 Pikkerbakken Lookout point with information boards in the south of Frederikshavn, it is located directly at Bangsbo Park and can be reached on foot from Møllehuset. There are enough free parking spaces available there. The Pikkerbakken is difficult to approach directly by car via a forest path.

Churches
- 5 In 1690 Frederikshavn received, then still Fladstrand, the Fladstrand Kirke as the first church. It has largely been preserved and was extensively renovated in 2008 due to woodworm infestation. Since then it has had a modern altar made from a block of black granite. The altarpiece was created in a modern, naive style by the Finnish artist Seppo Mattinen. There is a large park on one side of the church and one of Frederikshavn's central cemeteries on the other. The church is open on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. [2]
- 6 The Frederikshavn Kirke is the largest church in Frederikshavn and can accommodate 1,100 visitors. It was built from 1890 to 1892, since the previous one Fladstrand Kirke became too small. It has an altarpiece which shows Jesus with his disciples at Lake Tiberias. However, the artist Michael Ancher has never been to Israel, so the altarpiece gives the impression of depicting a Danish beach. The organ has 37 stops, and free concerts are offered on Saturdays around noon in summer. The church is open on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., in summer until 4:00 p.m. Services always take place on Sundays at 10:00.[3]

- 9 The Strandby Kirke is a modern church in the fishing village of Strandby. Their shape is reminiscent of a fishing cutter. The architect J. Blegvad took Le Corbusier's Notre-Dame-du-Haut de Ronchamp church as a model. Defenses
- 10 In the north of Frederikshavn is the Nørdre Skanse, a defensive structure built between 1627 and 1629. It is accessible to visitors at all times.

- 14 The Brysterne (Eng. breasts) are five modern hemispherical sculptures made of rubble stones with fountains. You are at the passage from the town hall to the pedestrian zone.
- 15 The Fiskerne (dt. the fishermen) is a stone sculpture by the Danish artist Hans W. Larsen. It is located at the entrance to the fishing port.
- 16 The Frihedsmonumentet (German: Freedom Monument) is a granite relief created by Sven Bovin, which shows two freedom fighters from World War II carrying a wounded man.
- 17 The Løvebrønden (Eng. Lion Fountain) is a fountain designed by the architect Thorvald Bindesbøll (1846-1908) in the courtyard of the Bangsbo mansion.
- 18 The Mindsmærket for isbådsulykken (Eng. Monument to the Icebreaking Disaster) commemorates four marines who lost their lives in a rescue operation in February 1956. They saved the lives of four boys who walked on the ice in the Baltic Sea off Frederikshavn.
- 19 The Stenbiderfontænen (Eng. Seehasenbrunnen) is a fountain created by Sven Bovin on a square at the northern end of the pedestrian zone. In the middle there is a stone sculpture of a sea hare about two meters high.
- 20 The monument to the national hero Tordensjkold (Peter Wessel) says on the Fisketorvet (German fish place). It was created by Poul Erland in 1990 in connection with the expansion of the pedestrian zone.

- 27 The Fiskerklyngen are the oldest part of Frederikshavn, which consists of small yellow fishermen's houses.

Die Fußgängerzone von Frederikshavn erreicht eine Gesamtlänge von etwa einem Kilometer. Der längste Teil, die Danmarksgade endet im Süden auf dem 4 Fisketorvet, einem Platz auf dem Samstags oft Musiker auftreten. Von dort zweigen die Havnegade in Richtung Hafen, die Rimmensgade in Richtung Rathaus und die Søndergade weiter in Richtung Süden ab. In der Fußgängerzone finden sich verschiedene Läden und Restaurants. Insbesondere das Angebot an Haushaltswarenläden und Sportgeschäften ist groß. Die Geschäfte in der Fußgängerzone sind meist in der Zeit von Montag-Freitag 9:30 bis 17:30, Samstag von 9:30 bis 14:00 geöffnet.
Etwas nördlich des Fisketorvet zweigt die Rimmensgade mit vielen Restaurants ab. Etwa in der Mitte der Danmarksgade befindet sich der 5 Kirkepladsen. Dort findet am ersten Samstag im Monat, in der Hochsaison mehrmals, ein Markt statt.
Durch den Fährverkehr gelangen viele Schweden und Norweger nach Frederikshavn, welche die im Vergleich zu ihren Heimatländern günstigen Preise für Spirituosen nutzen.

Das größte Ferienhausgebiet der Stadt, der 4 Bratten Strand, befindet sich 7 Kilometer nördlich von Frederikshavn, zwischen den Ortschaften Strandby und Jerup. Neben einem kleinen Kaufmann befindet sich in der Mitte ein großer Spielplatz. Ferienhäuser gibt es in diesem Gebiet in allen Kategorien und Größen.

Richtung Norden
Folgt man der Primärrute 40, so gelangt man entlang der Ostseeküste nach 36 Skagen. Diese Kleinstadt gehört seit der Kommunalreform 2007 zu Frederikshavn. Es ist der nördlichste Ort Dänemarks. In Sommermonaten verdrei bis vervierfacht sich die Bewohnerzahl durch Touristen, die sich durch die malerischen Gassen schlängeln. Der Yachthafen ist dann zu jeder Tages- und Nachtzeit belebt. Hier befinden sich kleine rote Fischerhütten mit Fischrestaurants in unterschiedlichen Preiskategorien.
Nur wenige Kilometer weiter nördlich befindet sich 37 Grenen, die nördliche Spitze von Dänemark. Hier treffen Kattegat und Skagerrak aufeinander. Schwimmen sollte man hier aufgrund der gefährlichen Strömungen allerdings nicht. Die Primärroute 40 sowie Radwege führen hierhin. Doch etwa 2 Kilometer vor dem Ziel müssen Auto oder Rad aufgrund des Sandes abgestellt werden. Genügend Parkplätze stehen zu Verfügung. Personen, die nicht am Strand bis zur Spitze laufen möchten, können den Sandormen, einen Trekker mit Passagierwagen, nutzen.
Die Nordspitze verformt sich ständig, im Laufe der Jahre ist sie durch Strömungen länger geworden. Da diese Strömungen immer eine Gefahr für die Seefahrt darstellten, mussten Seezeichen errichtet werden. Drei davon können in Skagen besichtigt werden. The 38 Vippefyr ist eine Holzkonstruktion auf einem Hügel in Strandnähe. Nachts wurde ein Korb mit Brennholz daran hochgezogen. In direkter Nähe befindet sich das 39 Hvide Fyr. dem ersten Leuchtturm. Der heutige Leuchtturm, das 40 Grå Fyr, steht etwa einen Kilometer weiter nördlich. Von dort hat man eine gute Aussicht über die Nordspitze samt des regen Schiffsverkehrs um die Nordspitze von Dänemark.
An der Westküste befindet sich der malerische Ort 41 Højen or. glammel Skagen (dt. altes Skagen) mit kleinen gelben Häusern mit rot/weißen Dächern. Aufgrund der Lage mit Meer zu drei Seiten Skagens, herrschen besondere Lichtverhältnisse, die viele Künstler nach Skagen zogen. Noch heute befinden sich in Højen zahlreiche Galerien. Die Lichtverhältnisse sollen nur im norwegischen Åsgårdstrand ähnlich sein.
An der Straße zwischen Frederikshavn und Skagen liegt in einem Wald 42 Den Tilsandede Kirke (dt. die versandete Kirche). Kräftige Sandstürme sorgten dafür, dass 1775 der Eingang der um 1300 errichteten Kirche ständig freigeschaufelt werden musste. Zwanzig Jahre später gab man die Kirche schließlich auf und das Kirchenschiff wurde abgerissen, nur der Turm ragt heute noch aus den Sandmassen heraus.
Weiter westlich bewegt sich die Wanderdüne 43 Råbjerg Mile pro Jahr etwa 15 Meter vorwärts. Es ist ein etwa 120 ha großer und 40 Meter hoher Sandhügel, der etwa um das Jahr 2150 die Ostsee erreichen wird.
Richtung Osten
7 km westlich vor Frederikshavn liegt die aufgrund seltener Vogelarten unter Naturschutz stehende Inselgruppe Hirsholmene, deren Hauptinsel 44 Hirsholm betreten werden darf. Die Inseln sind auch mit einer kleinen Fähre erreichbar. Auf Hirsholm befinden sich neben 17 Häusern eine kleine Kirche und der 1886 errichtete Leuchtturm.
Mit den Fähren der Stena-Line lassen sich bequem Tagestouren in das schwedische 45 Göteborg unternehmen. Die Fähren gelangen durch den Schärengarten direkt in die Innenstadt, welche von Kanälen durchzogen ist. Ein Ticket für eine Tagestour (hin-/zurück) ist meist für etwa 100 dkr. erhältlich.
Mit einer Fähre ist auch die 27 km südwestlich gelegene Insel 46 Læsø in 90 Minuten erreichbar. Die von etwa 1.800 Menschen bewohnte Insel ist unter anderem aufgrund der Siedesalzproduktion und dem Fang von Kaisergranat (Nephrops norvegicus, lokal: „Jomfruhummer“) bekannt.
Richtung Süden
Südlich von Frederikhavn befindet sich die Kleinstadt 47 Sæby, welche in den Sommermonaten durch den Yachthafen belebt ist. Sehenswert ist die mit Kalkmalereien verzierte ab 1460 errichtete Marienkirche.
Weiter südlich befinden sich zahlreiche gut erhaltene Schlösser: Im 48 Sæbygård ist heute ein Museum eingerichtet. in the 49 Voergård Slot finden ein Mal im Jahr Mittelaltertage statt. in the 50 Dronninglund Slot ist ein Hotel eingerichtet, während die Schlosskirche weiter als Pfarrkirche genutzt wird.
Etwa eine dreiviertel Stunde benötigt man mit dem Auto bis zur viertgrößten Stadt Dänemarks, Aalborg. Die Stadt liegt am Limfjord, welcher das dänische Festland durchzieht. In Aalborg befinden sich ein 19 Zoo, ein kleiner 20 Vergnügungspark Karolinenlund und eine 2014 fertiggestelltes 21 Konzert- und Opernhaus Musikkens Hus.
Richtung Westen
40 Kilometer nordwestlich von Frederikshavn liegt die Hafenstadt Hirtshals. Hier fahren täglich Fähren nach Norwegen aber auch den Færøern und Island ab. Die Stadt ist bekannt für das
An der Westküste befindet sich eine weitere Wanderdüne, 52 Rubjerg Knude. Die Düne bewegt sich deutlich weniger, als die Råbjerg Mile, doch ist sie dadurch beeindruckend, dass ihre Kante steil zum Meer abfällt. Den Leuchtturm Rubjerg Fyr hat die 1900 Meter lange, 400 Meter breite und etwa 100 Meter hohe Düne mittlerweile umschlossen.
An vielen Stellen an der Westküste brechen Teile des Landes ab und stürzen in die Nordsee. So auch an der 53 Mårup Kirke. Teile des Friedhofes sind bereits in das Meer gestürzt. Die mittelalterliche Kirche wird nach und nach abgetragen und wird eventuell an anderer Stelle neu errichtet.

Weiter südlich befinden sich die bei Touristen beliebten Ferienorte Løkken and Blokhus. Die Geschäfte haben sich hier insbesondere auch an die deutschen Urlauber angepasst. So findet man deutlich mehr Indooraktivitäten wie Bowlingbahnen, Diskotheken usw. als in anderen Landesteilen. In der Nähe von Blokhus befindet sich das
