VillandroItalian: Villandro is a South Tyrolean Parish in the district community Eisack Valley. It has around 1,900 inhabitants and is located on the eastern slope of the Sarntal Alps above the Eisack.

The community Villandro consists of the districts 1 St. Stefan, 2 St. Moritz and 3 St. Valentin, named after the associated parish churches. The village center and administrative seat is St. Stefan.

In the 12th century the mining of silver and copper ore began above Villanders. The heyday of the mine was in the 16th century. Mining lost its importance at the end of the 18th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, operations were finally stopped.

Steinbock Inn
  • 1  St. Stephan. The church in the old village center was built around 1521, the tower around 1400. Next to it is St. Michael, built in 1344.

  • 1  Geographical center of South Tyrol (Villanderer Alm). The geographical center of South Tyrol is on the Villanderer Alm, not far from the famous Dead Lake and the Villanderer Berg. On the Hochalm you have a wonderful panoramic view of the Dolomite chain.
