The city of Vogtsburg is quite young. It was only created in the course of the community reform 1971-1975 through the merger of seven Kaiserstuhl communities:

  • Achkarren, Wine-growing village in the southwest of the municipality
  • Bickensohl, located below the Totenkopf, at 557 m the highest mountain in the Kaiserstuhl
  • Bischoffingen
  • Burkheim, formerly Burkheim am Rhein, already had town charter in the 14th century
  • Oberbergen with the hamlet of Altvogtsburg, namesake of the city
  • Oberrotweil, Seat of the city administration
  • Schelingen

Vogtsburg is located in the northwest of the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district, as are the neighboring communities Breisach, Your singing, Boetzingen and Eichstetten. The northern neighboring towns Sasbach, Endingen and Bahlingen belong to the district of Emmendingen. The western neighbors Artzenheim and Baltzenheim lie in Alsace.

activities

4 hikes starting in Oberrotweil

There are many hiking opportunities in the Kaiserstuhl. The Vogtsburg side has some hiking suggestions. Here are four subjectively compiled hikes from Oberrotweil. This district is conveniently located at the Kaiserstuhlbahn. You don't have to plan circular hikes.

  • A short walk (orange) over the vineyards: This path is referred to as the "Culinary Wine Trail" on the Vogtsburg side. Only the tables are "culinary". The highlight is the view over the Rhine to the Vosges.
  • The day tour (blue about 21km) over the Schlossberg (Höhingen ruins) at Achkarren and around the Böhmischberg Lenzenberg. There is a recommendable restaurant with a terrace and a wonderful view of the Burgundy Gate. In the afternoon it goes back over the Skull. Optional return by train from Ihringen via Breisach.
  • The next hike (red) takes us north of Oberrotweil over the Texas Pass to the Katharinenberg with chapel and finally to Bahlingen. It is the Katharinenpfad that we follow. Very pleasant on hot days because it runs in the forest. Stop in Bahlingen and return via the vineyards or by train via Endingen.
  • The last tour (pink) leads over the skull and the Neunlindenturm to Martinshof near Ihringen, where you can stop off. On the way back via Breisach we drink a Burgundy on the banks of the Rhine.
