The Baden Wine Route leads through the Baden wine-growing areas between Rhine and Black Forest.

background

The Baden wine-growing region is the third largest in Germany and the only German area that belongs to the wine-growing zone B. which has higher requirements than the zone A., in which the other German wine-growing regions are located.

The Badische Weinstrasse was founded in 1954 in Baden-Baden and for 60 years led from there to Weil am Rhein on the Swiss border - through the Baden wine-growing areas Ortenau, Breisgau, Kaiserstuhl, Tuniberg and Markgräflerland.

Since 2014, the Baden Wine Route has also been leading north on a signposted route through the wine-growing areas Kraichgau and Badische Bergstrasse. The Baden wine-growing areas Tauberfranken and Lake Constance are not directly connected to the Baden Wine Route. Tauberfranken disposes with the Taubertal Wine Route via its own wine tourism route.

Grape varieties

Bathing is Burgundy country. In Baden, the three main grape varieties of the Burgundy family, i.e. the Pinot Blanc, the Pinot Gris / Ruländer and the (Blue) Pinot Noir, currently make up 42.1% of the Baden vineyard area. They are complemented by the varieties Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Gutedel, Chardonnay, Auxerrois and Schwarzriesling. Not only the area share of over 50% of the total German Burgundy cultivation, but in particular the type and characteristics of Baden's Burgundy wines have made a significant contribution to the profile and image of Baden wine. The Badisch red gold called wine is a blend of gray and pinot noir.
