The European walking route E7 runs off the island El Hierro about various Canary Islands and via Portugal, Spain, France, Italy and Slovenia to Nagylak, a village on the border of Hungary and Romania, not far from it three-country point of Serbia.[1][2] The walking route is unfinished and interrupted. In Portugal the route is only projected in the vicinity of Lisbon, while part in Italy has been "under development" for twenty years. The marked part of the route (Spain - Italy and Slovenia - Hungary) measures approximately 5000 km. The E7 does not pass through the Netherlands. To get there via long-distance walking routes, the 'shortest' way is the E2, more known as GR5, nasty Nice.

Safety

A tick is smaller than the head of a match

The E7 is generally a safe walking route. The greatest danger lies in an almost invisible small animal: the tick. Ticks can (to varying degrees; in some regions almost 100% of ticks are infected) be carriers of two life-threatening parasites. Lyme disease, which is spread by tick bites, occurs throughout the E7 region. It is not possible to vaccinate against this disease, but one must check every evening for the presence of ticks. Once infected, a course of antibiotics is necessary. The other tick parasite comes in Slovenia and Hungary and causes the disease FSME, a form of meningitis. This disease cannot be controlled with drugs; therefore one should be vaccinated with three injections before the trip.

In particular, the Canary Islands, the crossing of the Pyrenees, the Italian and the Slovenian part of the E3 have an alpine character, for which experience with mountain hiking is required. on Tenerife the day routes are up to 30 km long because there is no accommodation and wild camping is prohibited. Other dangers along the route are minor: wild boars and other large game are generally shy. Rabies (rabies) occurs among forest animals, but is rare. There are no indications of high crime along the E7, with the exception of the Canary cities, Barcelona and Provence.
