Whakatane is a city in New Zealand. Whakatane (pronounced Fakatani) is in the east Bay of Plenty where the Whakatane River flows into the South Pacific. With 18,000 inhabitants, it is still a relatively clear but active small town. Whakatane is a great gateway to explore the East Coast, go on an adventure boat trip on White Island, relax on the beach, or go surfing.
