Hicks Bay is a bay on the Pacific coast in the region Gisborne.

There are no larger towns in the far east of the North Island, so the area has remained relatively original. There is a small town on the edge of the bay.

Just east of Hicks Bay isTe Araroa at the Kawakawa Bay, the place is mainly known for a roughly 600 year old giant Pōhutukawa tree.
Other goals
The East Cape is the most easterly point of New Zealand. It can be reached from Te Araroa on a narrow path along the coast. Directly at the cape there is a lighthouse on a 150 m high cliff. To get to it, you have to walk through private farmland and climb about 700 steps.

The only good way to the northeast corner of New Zealand is the SH 35, the one from Opotiki comes and over at Hicks Bay Ruatoria to Gisborne leads. The nearest petrol stations are also there.
