The oblast Vologda (Russian: Вологодская область) located in Northwest Russia. It is surrounded by the oblasts Novgorod, Leningrad, Arkhangelsk, Kirov, Nizhny Novgorod, Kostroma and Yaroslavl as well as the Republic of Karelia.

Vologda Oblast is quite extensive, but offers the visitor some great sights. Sights not to be missed include the capital, Vologda, Kirillo Belozersky Monastery, Russia's North National Park and of course Ferapontov Monastery.
