Zara (Zadar) is a city of the Northern Dalmatia.

The city overlooks the Adriatic Sea and is the capital of the Zadar region.In 2016 Zadar won the award as Best European destination.

How to orient yourself
Beaches
The beaches of the city are located north and south of the old town, they are always very crowded, for both you need to wear rock shoes.
- 1 North. The first part is made of pebbles along the road and ends inside a pine forest where the sea is rocky. It is possible to park inside the pine forest.
- 2 South (It extends from the end of the old town (in front of the hospital) to the port.). It is a long pebble beach in the first part there are locals, going towards the port it becomes narrower and less crowded.

By car
TO Trieste pass the former border of Pesek / Kozina, and continue to the Croatian border where you can take thehighway up to Zadar. The alternative is to go out to River (Rijeka), continue on the coastal road. The coast road is full of curves and single lane, but in return offers a nice view. The motorway is newly built, in excellent condition, with two lanes, except in the Sv. Rok tunnel (5 km long). In case of strong winds the section from Sv. Rok to Maslinac may remain closed to traffic.

- 3 Kopnena vrata (Gateway to the Mainland). Work of the Venetian architect Michele Sanmicheli, built in 1543. It is the main entrance to the historic center, on the door is the lion of San Marco, symbol of Venice and a sculpture of San Grisogono on horseback.

- Church of San Domenico (On the west side from the Porta Terraferma, opposite the Palazzo Nassi and the Palazzo del Provveditore). In Gothic style with one nave, consecrated in 1280. Today the church has numerous theatrical performances and concerts.

- 13 [link not working]Samostan Sv. Frane (Franciscan church and monastery), Trg Sv. Frane 1, ☎ 385 23 250 468. Built in 1221 and consecrated in 1280, it is the oldest Gothic religious structure in the Dalmatia.
- 14 Morske orgulje (Marine organ), Ulica Zadarskog Mira 1358. In the late afternoon the pier where there is the sea organ comes alive with many tourists and locals to watch the sunset while listening to the sound of the organ.
- Bathing is forbidden along the entire pier, but you can often see kids diving near the organ.
- It is advisable to visit the organ several times because according to the type of waves present the sounds change considerably, truly a magical place.
- Sveti Ilija (Orthodox Church of St. Elias). The Orthodox church of S Elia was built at the end of the 18th century to replace another one of the same name which served the Greek community in Zadar.

- Kapetanova kula (Bablja kula or The Captain's Tower) (Located near the Piazza dei Cinque Pozzi). Pentagonal in shape, it constitutes the only part still intact of the medieval fortifications.
- Kalelarga. It extends from the Piazza del Popolo to the Roman Forum. Always very crowded with shops and clubs on both sides, certainly the least characteristic of the whole old city.

- Plitvice Lakes National Park the most popular among the parks of Croatia and part of the UNESCO protected world heritage. It is about 120km, allow at least an hour and a half to travel as the last part of the road is very winding.
- Paklenica National Park It is located approximately 54 km.
- Kornati Islands National Park (Kornati) created in 1980 occupies an area of 220 sq km and includes 89 islands, islets and rocks. Most of the Park is formed by the marine ecosystem.
- Vrana Lake Nature Park (Park prirode Vransko jezero) is a protected ornithological reserve. It is located about 38 km to the south, at the height of Pakoštane.
- Krka National Park (Nacionalni Park Krka) The area is rich in plants, animals with more than 200 bird species. It is located about 80 km.
- Bebie Alps (Velebit) their natural area includes the Northern Velebit National Park and the Paklenica National Park. It is inscribed on the UNESCO list of nature reserves. It is located about 160 km.
