The land of Łęczyca - a historical and geographical region, formerly one of the main administrative regions Polish. The capital of the land is Łęczyca.

History

After the death of Bolesław III the Wrymouth, his wife, Duchess Salomea, inherited the land of Łęczyca. After her death (1144), it became part of the senior district and went to Bolesław IV Kędzierzawy. In the years 1231–1352, the Duchy of Łęczyca existed in the area of Łęczyca. In 1264, it was divided into the Duchy of Łęczyca and the Duchy of Sieradz. After the reunification of the broken country in the fourteenth century, these lands are once again part of the Kingdom of Poland. In the period from 1352 to 1793, this land was a separate Łęczyca Province, which was part of the Wielkopolska Province. It was then divided into 3 poviats with the capitals of Łęczyca, Orłowo and Brzeziny. Unfortunately, in 17 the land of Łęczyca was seized by the Russian Empire, and Łęczyca was incorporated into the newly created Kalisz governorate. In turn, the northern sections (including Kutno, Żychlin and Krośniewice) were attached to the Warsaw governorate.

Currently, the Łęczyca land is almost entirely located within the area of the Lodz voivodeshipand a small area belongs to Greater Poland Voivodeship (Kolski poviat).

Area

The Łęczyca land currently covers an area of almost 4.5 thousand square meters. square kilometers and its range covers the area of Tomaszów, Brzeziny, Łódzki, Zgierz, Poddębicki, Łęczyca, Koło and Kutno poviats and the city of Łódź.
