Zweisimmen is a Swiss Municipality in the canton Bern.

The community of Zweisimmen consists of the villages of Zweisimmen, Blankenburg, Mannried, Grubenwald and the scattered settlement Oeschseite. While the town of Zweisimmen is the largest due to its better location at a traffic junction. Is Blankenburg with the castle the former main building from the Middle Ages. Blankenburg Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1325.

The municipality is also the administrative seat of the Obersimmental district, whose administration is located in Blankenburg Castle.

The village of Zweisimmen is located at the confluence of the large Simme and the small Simme, which should make the origin of the name clear.

By plane

The Euroairport Basel and Zurich airports can be reached in a good 3 hours by public transport. The main airline at both airports is the Swiss with numerous flights all over the world. Basel is a hub for the low-cost airline easyJet.

By train

The standard gauge Simmental Railway of the BLS ends in Zweisimmen Spiez coming here. In the common train station she meets the MOB which from here to the Lenk or via Gstaad /Saanen to Montreux leads. The trains from Lenk to Saanen have to make a hairpin here.

When traveling from Zurich to Bern, you usually have to change trains in Spiez.

In the street

From Spiez the main road number 11 leads over Erlenbach to Zweisimmen, which then continues towards Saane Aigle leads. In Zweisimmen, the connecting road branches off to Lenk.

Tourist Attractions

  • Blankenburg Castle. Was built between 1768 and 1770 as a baroque wing structure. Because the castle burned down in 1767.

In summer there are many beautiful, well-marked hiking and mountain hiking trails.

In winter there is a ski area on the Rinderberg that extends all the way to Schönried.

Excursions: A train ride with the "Golden Pass Service" in the direction of Montreux, a hike in the mountains (numerous hiking trails, very well signposted) and, in bad weather, a swim in the Wallbach Bad Lenk.
