TheEpirus (Ήπειρος) is a periphery (region) in the northwest of the Greece, at the border albanian. It is gradually opening up, with the creation of a motorway that connects it to central Greece.
Understand
In French, 'Ήπειρος' translates to 'continent'. The region is so named because the inhabitants are perceived by those of the islands as mainlanders.
Epirus was re-annexed by Greece in 1913 and retains traces of Ottoman culture.

Cities
- 1 Igoumenitsa – port city, one of the main points of arrival by boat in Greece.
- 2 Syvota
- 3 Parga – fairly touristy seaside town, 40 km from Igoumenitsa. Between two beaches filled with deckchairs, there are small, almost deserted coves, a good spot for divers and freedivers, it's full of small fish and the water is very clear. Small diving rock with sufficient depth. A nice place on arrival or while waiting for the departure of the ferry.
- 4 Preveza – by the seaside
- 5 Arta
- 6 Ioannina – which shelters an old town of which almost only one enclosure remains in bad condition.
- 7 Konitsa – near the border Albanian
- 8 Metsovo – charming village on the road which leads from Ioannina to the site of Meteors.

Pindos National Park - The park covers the Valia Kalda valley and the surrounding mountains. A population of brown bears (Ursus arctos) lives in the park.

Boats leaving Italy for Greece stop at Igoumenitsa, near Albania. Several connections per day.
By car
A motorway still under construction connects the region with the rest of Greece. Count anyway 6 h journey to Igoumenitsa - Thessaloniki, 9 h to reach the eastern end of Greece.
By plane
- Ioannina Airport.
- 1 Aktion Airport (IATA : PVK, ICAO: LGPZ, Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Ακτίου) (4 km south of Préveza, on the other side of the mouth of the Ambracic Gulf but connected by a tunnel) – also serves the island of Lefkada

The campsite of Ioannina is located by the lake, west of the old town. It is quite well signposted from the entrance to the city. Count ten euros a night in tent. We fall asleep to the noise of the bar / nightclub and we wake up to the sound of planes. Adequate sanitary facilities.
