The Altdöberner See in the Lower Lusatia is an 880 hectare lake in the Lusatian Lakeland that emerged from the Greifenhain opencast mine. The lake is suitable for day trips out cottbus, the Spreewald or other places of the Lusatian Lakeland and invites you to go hiking, cycling and sometimes skating.
background
Naturally, this lake is located between the Spreewald (in the north), the Lusatian Lakes Association (in the south) and the Lower Lusatian ridge in the West. In the northeast, Gräbendorf derives from the former opencast mine Gäbendorfer See. And in the immediate vicinity, in the southeast borders the Steinitzer-Geisendorfer terminal moraine landscape to the Altdöberner See. In terms of location, the Altdöberner See lies between Drebkau in the north and Großräschen in the south. The Altdöbern office surrounds the lake to the west and east.
This lake will one day be one of the largest inland lakes in the state of Brandenburg. The Altdöberner See is one of the most northerly lakes currently under construction Lusatian Lakeland. The lake comes from the former Greifenhain opencast mine. In the period from 1998 to 2007, the former open pit mine was flooded with treated open pit water from the Rainitza mine water purification system. Due to over-dredging, the Altdöberner See is fed from an underground leaching channel (Worm storage gutter) itself. The Altdöberner See has good water quality (as of March 2016: pH value of 8.2). The external flooding of the lake was stopped in 2007. Nevertheless, the water level rises by 1.3 m per year. In 2021, the Altdöberner See should reach the final level of its water volume (approx. 294 million m³) with a water level of 82.4 m above sea level. Then 880 hectares of water should be available for further use. Selected areas on the Altdöberner See are closed due to renovation measures. Entering these restricted areas is prohibited due to danger to life.
