Background

A territory inhabited in the Nuragic and probably Roman times, in the Middle Ages it belonged to the Giudicato of Arborea and was part of the curatoria of the Marmilla. At the fall of the Giudicato (1410) it passed to the Aragonese and was included in the Incontrada di Marmilla, a fief of the Carroz counts of Quirra. From 1603 it was part of the Marquisate of Quirra, a fief of the Centelles. In 1839, with the suppression of the feudal system, it was redeemed from the last feudal lords, the Osorio de la Cueva, to become a municipality administered by a mayor and a municipal council.

In 1927 the municipality of Baradili was aggregated to the neighboring municipality of Baressa. I recovered autonomy in 1945.

Events and parties

  • Raviolo Festival. Simple icon time.svgSundays between 13 and 19 July. The festival is inspired by a legend according to which in a distant 13th July, some young farmers, while plowing land in the countryside, found the statue of Santa Margherita. The peasants brought the figurine to the parish priest who, ready to have lunch, was already seated at the table in front of a plate with three ravioli. The rumor of the discovery soon spread throughout the town, making all the population rush, and that simple lunch turned into a real banquet. The ravioli seemed to never end; it was enough for the parish priest, for the three young people, and for all the people of the town who came to pay homage to the statue of their patron saint. From that moment we celebrated Santa Mragarida Agattada (Santa Margherita rediscovered) or de is cruguxionis (of ravioli).

In 1995 the first ravioli festival was organized, which since then has been revived every year accompanied by other cultural activities and the enhancement of local products, as well as, of course, the distribution of ravioli in different varieties: with ricotta and lemon, with ricotta and spinach, with potatoes, prepared by hand according to ancient traditional recipes.
