By plane

The Oristano-Fenosu airport
  • 1 Oristano-Fenosu airport (IATA: FNU) (3 km from Oristano). Used until 2011 for tourist and charter flights. Closed to passenger traffic and used since 2013 by the VII Flight Department of the State Police. In the summer months it also hosts the helicopters of the regional firefighting fleet.

By car

  • From Cagliari, Sassari is Porto Torres take the Strada Statale 131 Carlo Felice and take one of the exits for Oristano located along the highway.
  • From Alghero take the Provincial Road 42 dei Due Mari and the SS 291 della Nurra in the direction of Sassari, then take the exit for Cagliari and take the SS 131 Carlo Felice and follow it up to one of the entrances to Oristano.
  • From Golfo Aranci, Olbia, Siniscola is Nuoro take the Strada Statale 131 d.c.n. in the direction of "Abbasanta-Cagliari", then take the Strada Statale 131 Carlo Felice in the direction of Cagliari and follow the latter up to one of the entrances to Oristano.
  • From Tortolì take the State Road 198 of Seui and Lanusei, then, after 2 km, follow the signs for Nuoro and turn right onto the provincial road 27, arrived at Villagrande Strisaili, turn left always following the signs for Nuoro, then take the state road 389 Var Nuoro-Lanusei and follow it up to Nuoro. Once here, do not enter the city but take the State Road 131 d.c.n. in the direction of "Abbasanta-Cagliari", then take the Strada Statale 131 Carlo Felice in the direction of Cagliari and follow the latter up to one of the entrances to Oristano.
  • From Lanusei take State Road 198 of Seui and Lanusei, then follow the signs for Nuoro and turn right onto State Road 389 of Buddusò and Correboi which after about 10 becomes State Road 389 var Nuoro-Lanusei, follow the latter up to Nuoro. Once here, do not enter the city but take the State Road 131 d.c.n. in the direction of "Abbasanta-Cagliari", then take the Strada Statale 131 Carlo Felice in the direction of Cagliari and follow the latter up to one of the entrances to Oristano.

On boat

The port of Oristano, located a few kilometers from the city, is usually used for industrial purposes such as the handling of goods, but in recent years it has also been used as a cruise terminal for the disembarkation of tourists. For those who want to arrive here by ship it is possible to disembark with the car at Cagliari (84 km from Oristano), a Porto Torres (142 km from Oristano), a Olbia (182 km from Oristano), a Golfo Aranci (201 km from Oristano) and a Tortolì-Arbatax (165 km from Oristano).

The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta
  • 1 Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta (It is located in the historic city center, in Piazza Duomo.). Destroyed in a siege, it was rebuilt under the reign of Mariano II. Of the original structure, only the bases of the apse and bell tower and the chapel of the Remedy remain, which houses some medieval sculptures. In 1733 the 13th century Gothic Cathedral was demolished to make way for a Baroque one. The Chapel of the Archives belongs to the reconstruction of the seventeenth century.   • Church and monastery of Santa Chiara (Located in the historic center). The complex was built in 1343 by the Judge Pietro III of Arborea on a pre-existing church dedicated to San Vincenzo. It is a Franco-Gothic style building with a single nave and a square apse. It is one of the few remains of medieval art in Oristano.
  • Carmine church and cloister (It is located in the historic center of Oristano, in via del Carmine.). Work of the architect Viana, it was built on commission of the Marquis d'Arcais in a Baroque-Rococo style. It is one of the best examples of Oristano Baroque and Rococo.
  • Church of the Holy Spirit. the church is mentioned in some documents of the XVI century, but only an archaeological investigation could reveal exactly the most ancient origins of this building, which according to some hypotheses would refer to the Byzantine age.
  • Church of San Sebastiano. also known as San Sebastiano fuori le mura, it was the only medieval church, with San Martino, which was located outside the city walls, was mainly frequented by pilgrims and peasants.
  • Capuchin church and monastery. The entire religious complex of the church and convent of the Capuchin nuns was built in 1739 by the wealthy Oristano citizen Pietro Ibba.
  • Church of the Blessed Virgin Immaculate and Capuchin convent. The church and the adjoining convent were erected in 1608 by the munificence of the noble from Oristano Domenico Paderi. The complex immediately built outside the city walls, on the road leading to the church and convent of San Martino, has been home to the Capuchin fathers since its origins.
  • Church of San Martino. Mentioned in the will of Ugone II of 1335, it was presumably built in the 13th century. and shows carved in a capital, the coats of arms with the poles of Aragon next to the eradicated tree of Arborea.
  • Church and Convent of San Domenico. They were built in 1634 by the noble from Oristano Don Baldassare Paderi. The entire complex housed the Dominican friars until 1832.
  • Oratory of the Purissima. Ancient chapel oratory of the Confraternity of the Immaculate Conception known as della Purissima, documented as early as the 17th century.
  • Church of San Sebastiano. Built in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, it is considered the oldest parish church in the towns of the city.
  • Church and hospital of Sant'Antonio Abate (Hospitalis Sancti Antoni). Mentioned in the will of Ugone II d'Arbore of 1335, it is located inside the walled city and was used to assist the sick. The church of Sant'Antonio annexed to the hospital, of Gothic origin, has a bell gable with two lights and is oriented towards the west.

  • Church of San Saturnino. Rebuilt in 1901, it is superimposed on an ancient church building named after the Cagliari martyr San Saturno. Inside it offers a high altar made of fine Tuscan marble.
  • St. Peter's Cemetery. The building dates back to 1835 by Monsignor Giovanni Bua, Archbishop of Arborense.
  • Church of San Paolo Apostolo (Located in the neighborhoods of Toràngius and Axi Anadis.). It was built in the nineties and was maintained by the Franciscan friars of San Francesco until 2013.
  • Church of San Giuseppe the worker (It is located in the Sa Rodia district.).
  • Sacred Heart Church. Located in the area from which it takes its name and previously called "Korea", it is a reinforced concrete church dating back to the sixties and seventies.

  • Walls. Wall circuit of the city of Oristano that ran for a distance of 2 km along the current via Mazzini, via GM Anjoy, via Solferino, via Cagliari, via Diego Contini and piazza Roma, strengthened by crenellated defensive towers at the gates and by 28 quadrilateral turrets.
  • 3 Tower of Mariano II (also called Tower of San Cristoforo) (It is located in Piazza Roma.). Erected in 1290, it was one of the two main gates of the ancient city walls. The twin Tower of San Filippo or Port'a Mari, which was located in the current Piazza Manno, was demolished in 1907, when in a serious state of neglect and dilapidation it was judged "of no artistic or cultural value" by the Ministry of public education.   • Collection of the work of the Duomo, Piazza Duomo 1, 39 0783 78684. It collects remains of the Gothic and Roman Church. In the chapter house of the Baroque Cathedral, ancient and silver sacred vestments are preserved. It houses the largest collection of illuminated manuscripts in Sardinia, dating back to the 13th-15th century.
