To know

Geographical notes

Baressa is located in Marmilla and borders on Baradili, Skirt, Gonnosnò, Siddi (UP), Simala, Turri (SU) e Ussaramanna (UP).

Background

The area was already inhabited in the Neolithic due to the presence in the territory of numerous nuraghi.

In the Middle Ages it belonged to the Giudicato of Arborea and was part of the curatoria of the Marmilla. After the defeat of the Giudicato by the Aragonese (1410) it became part of the County of Quirra, incorporated into the Incontrada di Parte Monti, a fief of the Carroz family. In 1603 the county was transformed into a marquisate, a fief of the Centelles. From the Centelles it passed to the Osorio, to whom it was redeemed in 1839 with the abolition of the feudal system, for which it became a municipality administered by a mayor and a municipal council.

In 1927 the municipality of Baradili was aggregated to Baressa, which recovered its autonomy in 1945.
