Big Creek is a port city in Belize in the Stann Creek District.
background
The port facility was established as the first private port in Belize in 1990 and serves as the main transshipment point for the Belize banana industry. From here, however, citrus fruits, shrimp and oil are shipped all over the world. The operator is Banana Enterprise Limited. A 63 meter wide, 7 meter deep and 1.5 km long canal was built to access the port. In 2000 the port facilities were modernized.

By plane
Big Creek has an airport (Airport Code: BGK) but is not regularly served by Tropic Air or Maya Airways. However, it is possible to book a charter flight or to ask Tropic Air whether there is a stopover on the route from Belize City to Punta Gorda (Belize) can be inserted. An easier route is certainly the busy airport from Placencia to fly to and then cross over with the ship.
In the street
All roads, whether from the north or the south, lead over the Southern Highway. Access to the port is on the same road as that leading to Independence on the border with Toledo District.
By boat
There are of course many ways to get to a port. In Placencia you can quickly find a transfer option. For self-sailers it should be noted that this harbor is very safe, especially in storms, and is often used from Placencia to secure the boats
