Châteauneuf-du-Pape is renowned the world over for its wines, made from 13 grape varieties. After the itinerant papacy of Clement V, Avignon becomes residence of the popes from the reign of John XXII. It is thanks to him that the Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyard has been able to develop. The first known terroir of Châteauneuf-du-Pape was listed, under the pontificate of Clement VI, in 1344. Viticulture is one of the primary activity sectors of the town, along with tourism. The Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC appellation is also produced in 2 other neighboring towns: Courthézon and Bedarrides.

Enclosed betweenA7 and theA9, to the south of the junction of the two, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is accessible by the  22 Orange-south from A7, since Lyon Where Montpellier, and the  23 Avignon-north since Marseilles. 3 main roads lead to the village: The D17, connecting Caderousse To Sorgues, the D192 since Bedarrides, and the D68 since Orange.
