Pranu Muttedu archaeological complex is a site of the Sardinia.

To know

The menhirs

The archaeological complex of Pranu Muttedu (plain of the myrtle, in Italian) is one of the most important funerary areas of the Sardinia prehistoric, and is located near Goni, in Sarrabus-Gerrei (province of Cagliari), along the road that leads to Orroli and the Sarcidano. The area, which extends for about 20 hectares, is divided into two parts, in which you can admire, respectively, several domus de janas tombs (about IV millennium BC), on one side, tumulus and menhir tombs (end IV - beginning of the III millennium BC), on the other. It is significant to underline that the complex records the highest concentration of menhirs and megaliths known in Sardinia (about sixty, variously distributed in pairs, alignments or groups).

Geographical notes

The park is located on a sandstone plain, about 500 m asl, covered with cork oaks and Mediterranean scrub.

When to go

The archaeological area of Pranu Mutteddu is open to the public every day of the year, from 8.30 to 18.00 in winter, and from 8.30 to 20.00 during the summer. The periods in which you can fully enjoy its beauty, however, are autumn and spring; both because the climate is milder and because of the colors that accompany these seasons.
