Krippenstein with Dachstein caves
Von Obertraun leads one in three sections cable railway almost to the 2,100 m high summit. The famous Dachstein caves (Eisriesenhöhle and Mammuthöhle) are located above the Schönbergalm at around 1,400 m and can be reached with the first section of the cable car.
A steadily sloping one opens up from the Krippenstein Family hiking trail (Road) the karst plateau to the Gjaidalmbahn valley station. (Official walking time 3 hours, but can also be done in 1½ hours if you run briskly). The path leads on Heilbronn Cross past. The cross is reminiscent of an Alpine tragedy in 1954. When the weather suddenly changed, 10 students and 3 teachers from Heilbronn died on the plateau. The 3rd section of the Krippensteinbahn takes you back comfortably from the Gjaidalm to the Krippenstein.
The new one is also worth seeing "5fingers" viewing platform, on the Krippenstein. From the platform in the form of a hand you can look into a 400 m deep abyss and have a great view over the Inner Salzkammergut with Lake Hallstatt.

Krippenstein ski area
Location: The Krippenstein is on the northern edge of the Dachstein massif Obertraun at Lake Hallstatt.
The ski area, which is between 600 and 2,100 m high, is an insider tip for deep snow skiers. There are some deep snow runs under the 30 km of slopes. The longest slope is the 11 km long valley run with an altitude of 1,100 meters. By the way, you can use the Krippenbrunn ski village Stop by and stay the night. Touring enthusiasts get their money's worth on the Dachstein plateau. You can climb from the Gjaidalm to the Dachstein glacier. further information: www.krippenstein.com
