The small town Dommitzsch lies on the edge of the Dübener Heide in the far north of Saxony. The Elbe runs east of the city.

Dommitzsch was once a capital of Sorbian chiefs and had a Teutonic Order in 1223 and city rights in 1298.

Dommitzsch is on the B 182 from Wittenberg to Torgau reachable, which is also the easiest access.
From the eastern side of the Elbe is Dommitzsch with a car ferry from Prettin reachable. The Elbe ferry Prettin runs Monday to Friday between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 6.30 a.m. to 8 p.m. From October to April, the traffic time ends Monday to Friday at 8 p.m. The crossing by car costs 2 €. The closest bridge is upstream in Torgau; Downstream there is only a bridge, significantly further, in Wittenberg.
