Ivory Coast[1] is a country in Africa. To the east of the country lies Ghana, in West Liberia, Guinea located in the northwest, Mali in the north and Burkina Faso in the northeast. To the south is the country's coastline towards the Atlantic.

Since 1983 is Yamoussoukro the official capital of the country, but the former capital Abidjan is the country's administrative center. Most foreign embassies are located in Abidjan.

History

Ivory Coast is a former French colony that became independent in 1960. Between 1998 and 2004, the country was shaken by unrest and several coups.

4 different main groups (akan, lobis, mande & krou) 18,500,000 inhabitants of which about 30-40% are immigrants from various African countries as well as Lebanon, Syria, France and Sweden.
