Frauenau is a community in Lower Bavaria part of Bavarian Forest.

Frauenau, at the foot of the Big Rachel (1453 m), has a long tradition in glass production. The first glassworks was founded in 1420. The von Poschinger family acquired a glassworks in 1568, which is still in operation today. The castle of the von Poschinger family had to be abandoned in 1959 due to the damage caused by World War II.

In 1983 the drinking water dam was completed. This supplies large parts Lower Bavaria.

By plane

The Munich Airport is about 160 km from Frauenau. Continue by train via Plattling or by car via the A92.

In the street

With the A3 and A92 bis Deggendorf, continue on the B11 (the motorway changes directly to the B11) via Patersdorf Zwiesel to Frauenau.

By train

With the ICE or IC / EC every 2 hours Plattling. It continues with the forest railway Zwiesel (change here again) to Frauenau Bayerwald ticket replaces the single tickets of the forest railway.

Frauenau is on the forest railway line Zwiesel-Grafenau which is operated every 2 hours. Of Zwiesel you can get to every hour Ground corn, Bavarian Eisenstein (here also further after Czech Republic or Plattling.

In summer, the national park is opened up in the national park with the hedgehog buses (bus stop Spiegelau on the route after Grafenau.

With the Bavarian Forest Ticket there is an inexpensive day pass for all public transport in the region.
