The place Bavarian Eisenstein (Czech .:Bavorská Železná ruda, German outdated before 1951: Eisenstein) is a rural municipality in Lower Bavaria District of Regen and border community too Czech Republic. This is in Bavarian forest and is the northern end point of the Bavarian Forest National Park, as well as one of its most popular excursion destinations - "whether in summer or in winter!"

Due to the “Iron Curtain” during the Cold War, Bayerisch Eisenstein was almost in a “deep sleep” for a long time. After the opening of the border, the small community was overrun by traffic. A gate light had to be installed, which only allowed a certain number of vehicles into the place. The constant traffic jams have seriously damaged tourism in Eisenstein. After Czech Republic the problem was eliminated overnight.

On the outskirts to the south, the Bavarian Forest National Park extends with its countless opportunities to discover the pristine natural and animal world. The Sumava National Park (CR) also extends to the east, the upper one in the Bohemian Forest Mountains Eisenstein valley is framed by the impressive backdrop of the mountains; the Arber (1455.5 m / 4775 feet) which rises on the northern outskirts, the Falkenstein (1312 m / 4304 feet), the Zwercheck (1332 m / 4370 feet) and the Mittagsplatz (1340 m / 4396 feet). This came about when the last ice age came to an end around 12,000 years ago. The melting ice masses on the flanks of these mountains left cirques, which gave the area its pre-alpine appearance in places. In the village you can walk or drive your own car. Given the size of the small border community, a local bus would be an exaggeration.
With the forest railway (via Zwiesel to Ground corn and Grafenau) and with buses of the RBO can one Bavarian forest experienced even without a car. This is best for this Bayerwald ticket, a day pass for all buses and trains on the German side of the border.

- Great Arbersee, is a so-called karst lake (basin-shaped depression on the mountain slope) and is part of a nature reserve that was designated as early as 1939. In older literature it is always portrayed as a cloudy, dark moor lake. However, the lake's abundance of fish, praised in old stories and legends, is long gone. The noticeable clearing of the water in the last few decades is a result of increasing air pollution; acid precipitation loosens aluminum from the forest floor, which is washed into the lake by the tributaries. There this metal flocculates and pulls the cloudy humic substances to the bottom. Thus the water of the lake becomes clear. This strong acidification also leads to an impoverishment of the flora and fauna.

- Großer Arber ski area - Modern ski area and World Cup location (women's slalom and giant slalom) with a 6-seater gondola, two chairlifts and three drag lifts. The snow-sure area is at an altitude of 1050-1450 m and consists of a total of 7 km of slopes (3 km easy, 2 km medium and 2 km difficult). At 1,455.5 meters, it is the highest mountain in the region.

Directly across the border in the hamlet of Alžbětín in the neighboring village Železná Ruda (German: Markt Eisenstein) you can buy in a market mainly operated by Vietnamese. The border town is not exactly known for its nightlife; one could say “the sidewalks are folded up very early”. Most of them drive across the border to Zelezna Ruda, there is e.g. a casino there.

Despite being near the border, life is very safe in Bayerisch Eisenstein. The border controls have been dropped, but with the veil manhunt, more controls in the hinterland are to be expected.
