The small town Freyburg is located on the lower reaches of the Unstrut, about 8 km north of the city center of Naumburg (Saale) and in the middle of the Saale-Unstrut wine-growing region. The “gymnastics father” Friedrich Ludwig Jahn lived in the city until his death (1852).

By train
Freyburg is with the Unstruttalbahn, which runs between Naumburg and Cheeks (unstrut) above Nebra (Unstrut) Runs every hour, to the next larger railway junction Naumburg tied up. The station is on the other side of the Unstrut.
Since the Erfurt-Nuremberg high-speed line went into operation at the end of 2017, ICE trains to Munich or Leipzig and Hamburg Altona past Naumburg. The closest long-distance traffic stops are now Leipzig, Halle and Erfurt.

Freyburg is roughly 20 km from the nearest Highways, namely the Autobahn 9 Berlin – Munich and the A 38 Göttingen – Leipzig, away. Coming from the direction of Göttingen, leave the A 38 at exit 20 (Querfurt) and the B 180. For a purely tourist approach, the Romanesque Road.

The Cyclist uses the Unstrut cycle path for arrival. For the passionate Long-distance hikers The 230 km long Feengrotten-Kyffhäuser-Weg is ideal.

Tourist Attractions
It is worth seeing 1 Marienkirche
in half Gothic, half Romanesque style with two towers. Immediately above the city rises the old one, built by Ludwig the Springer around 1062 and rebuilt by Landgrave Ludwig the Iron after its destruction by the Archbishop of Magdeburg (1139), but in its current form largely originating from the Dukes of Saxony-Weißenfels 2 Bergschloss Neuchâtel with Romanesque double chapel, banquet hall and watch tower.
In the district Zscheiplitz the former monastery church of the Benedictine convent of St. Bonifacius from the 12th century can be visited.

- Naumburg (Saale) (8 km south, B 180 "Straße der Romanik") - if you haven't come from there, Naumburg is the next first-class destination. With its cathedral, the city has one of the most important sacred buildings in Europe.
- Laucha (8 km to the west) - located upstream of the Unstrut; old city fortifications and bell museum.
- Bad Kosen (13 km south, B 180 to Roßbach, drive around Naumburg west) - Sole springs, the Rudelsburg is not far away.
