background
Gammertingen is located in a landscape that was already settled in the Bronze Age, there are also traces of Roman and Alemannic settlement. The place was first mentioned in a document in 1101. Gammertingen has been known as a town since 1311; it initially belonged to the Counts of Gammertingen, later to those of Veringen, and finally to the Barons of Speth. In 1806 Gammertingen came to the principality Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, which became part of the state of Baden-Württemberg after 1945. Around 1975 the city districts became relatively small Bronnen, Feldhausen, Hardthausen, Kettenacker and Mariaberg incorporated.
