Veringenstadt is a city on the Swabian Alb.

background

Around 80 km south of Stuttgart and around 60 km north of the Lake Constance in the local recreation area Laucherttal ([1]) on Hohenzollernstrasse ([2]), Veringenstadt is located in the heart of the Swabian Alb and on the edge of the Upper Danube Nature Park ([3]).

Numerous traces in and around the caves of the Jura rocks point to the continuous settlement since approx. 100,000 BC. The presence of humans can be proven over the settlement times of the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Roman Age.

The preserved medieval town center looks back on a distinctive history.

  • Count Marquard von Veringen was first mentioned in a document in 1140.
  • In 1285 Rudolf von Habsburg granted the town market rights.
  • From 1291 to 1806 it was under Austrian rule.
