It is the foothill area that extends under theFriulian Alpine Arch. Gemona del Friuli it is its most important center.

Urban centers
- Gemona del Friuli - The reconstruction of the city after the terrible 1976 earthquake that brought it to its knees is an unmatched example of the value of its people who, in addition to the houses, have rebuilt, stone by stone, its beautiful Cathedral as it was.
- Artegna - On the first mountain hills, it rebuilt its churches and castle after the 1976 earthquake.
- Bordano - Rebuilt after the 1976 earthquake, the town has relaunched its image with the Butterfly House, a real living museum of this species of insects.
- Trasaghis - Devastated by the 1976 earthquake, the town saved the ancient church of San Michele del Pagani.
- Venzone - The Mummies of Venzone have great fame, belonging to an era between the fourteenth and nineteenth centuries, currently preserved in a building near the Duomo. The mummification process is not due to human intervention, but to natural causes (suitable temperature and humidity, high presence of calcium sulphate in the soil).

- Cavazzo lake - Also known as lake of the three municipalities, is a place for excursions, walks and outdoor life in total contact with nature.
