Territories and tourist destinations

Urban centers

  • Ajlun - In its vicinity is there Ajlun Nature Reserve and the Dibeen Forest Reserve.
  • Al-Himma (Mukheibal) - Famous center at the time of ancient Rome for its thermal springs.
  • Al-Salt - The ancient capital of Transjordan.
  • Amman - The capitals of Jordan.
  • Azraq - Town of 10,000 inhabitants in the center of an oasis that is now much less dense after the construction of an aqueduct aimed at satisfying the water needs of the cities of Amman is Irbid. In its surroundings it stands Qusayr Amra, the best preserved of the desert palaces.
  • Hammam as-Sarah - 2 km from the previous one, Hammam as-Sarah is an archaeological site comprising an Umayyad era complex obtained from a fortress from the time of Caracalla.
  • Irbid - Second city in the country by number of inhabitants, Irbid also boasts a university, that of Yarmouk, famous throughout the Middle East. 10 km from Irbid is the archaeological site of Skill (Quwaylibal) one of the ancient cities of the Decapolis.
  • Jerash - The ancient Gerasa about 30 km from the capital Amman.
  • Mafraq - 80 km east of capitalJordanian, Mafraq is a center of 60,000 inhabitants with little to offer to visitors.
  • Qasr al-Hallabat - A Roman-era fortress on the Via Nova Traiana, the road that connected Damascus to Aqaba passing through Amman is Petra.
  • Umm Qais - Village 25 km from Irbid in the vicinity of which are the ruins of the Hellenistic city of Gadara[1], [2].
  • Umm al-Jimal[3] Called the "Black Pearl of the Desert", Umm al-Jimal preserves extensive ruins of an as yet unidentified ancient city. It was a military outpost in Roman times and from that time it preserves the ruins of fortifications and barracks. It flourished also in the following Byzantine period as the ruins of many churches attest.
  • Zarqa - Third largest city in the country, Zarqa was hit by the tide of concrete from the suburbs of Amman and has little tourist interest.

Al-Maghtas
  • Bethany beyond the Jordan (Al-Maghtas) — Unesco Located west of the border with Israel is the place where Jesus was baptized.
  • Pella (Taqabat Fahl) - Archaeological site with the city ruins of the Decapolis.

What see

  • Ajlun Castle. The castle of Ajlun it is a great example of Islamic military architecture from the Crusades period. It's an interesting labyrinth of steps and levels and offers great views of the surrounding area - from northwestern Jordan to the Galilee.
Qasr Al-Abd
