Gronau (Westphalia) is right on the border with the Netherlands. Gronau borders on the Dutch side Enschede, on the German side Heek and Ahaus as well as on Ochtrup and Nordhorn, which is on the Lower Saxony side.

The Gronau (Westphalia) train station is by the regional train lines RB 64Euregio railway (Münster - Steinfurt - Gronau - Enschede) and RB 51Westmünsterland Railway (Dortmund Hbf - Coesfeld - Gronau - Enschede), both lines run every hour. Gronau is in the network area of Transport Community Münsterland (VGM), on August 1st 2017 the former Münsterland tariff was abolished and went to Westphalia tariff which includes the entire area of Westphalia.
