Goellheim is a local church in the region Thunder Mountain and state-approved tourist destination.

Anyone driving past Göllheim on the autobahn will probably first see the large Dyckerhoff cement works. Göllheim is a traditional mining community with countless opencast mines scattered around the entire town and one of the few industrial centers in the otherwise rural northern Palatinate.

The small town also has a lot to offer historically with its well-preserved historic old town and also benefits from its location on the edge of the Palatinate Forest.

By train

The 1 Göllheim-Dreisen train station is actually located in the neighboring village of Dreisen and to Göllheim you have to cope with a short walk on a country road with little traffic. It is served on Sundays in the summer months (May 1st to November 1st) by the museum trains of the Zellertalbahn between Monsheim and Kaiserslautern Hbf. Regular traffic no longer takes place on the route.

By bus

Göllheim can be reached by bus via RegioLinie 920. This runs from the Kirchheimbolanden and Eisenberg (Pfalz) stations to the other station through Göllheim and runs every day, including weekends and Sundays.

In the street

Göllheim is located on the B47, which leads around the place as an intersection-free bypass. Via the connection point Symbol: AS 12 Göllheim the A63 Göllheim is easily accessible.

Old town of Göllheim

Göllheim offers a very interesting and almost completely preserved old town from the 17th and 18th centuries.

  • 1  Protestant Church. The Protestant Church in Göllheim actually consists of two buildings. The tower of the church still comes from the first medieval church, which was demolished in the 18th century due to dilapidation, while the current nave is an early classicist hall from 1765.

  • 2  Catholic Church of St. John Nepomuk. The Catholic Church is also called "North Palatinate Cathedral" because of its dimensions and is the largest church building in the area. The church was built between 1909 and 1911 in neo-Gothic style on a hill east of the old town and is a building that can be seen from afar it is the third Catholic church in Göllheim after the medieval church at the location of today's Protestant church and the Holy Cross Church not far from today's location, which had to be demolished shortly after construction due to poor building ground.
  • Of the medieval city fortifications is only that today 3 Ulrichsturm preserved on the northern border of the town. However, two of the city gates were rebuilt in the 18th century: the 4 Candlesheim Gate is located at the southern end of the main road on the arterial road in the direction of Kerzenheim. Vehicle traffic is led past the gate to the east, so that the gate can be easily visited on foot. This is at the other end of the main street in the direction of Dreisen 5 Dreisener Tor, which until today has to be driven through by vehicle traffic in the direction of the town center.

  • 6  King's Cross Chapel. On July 2, 1298, the Knight Battle of Göllheim took place in Göllheim, the last great knight battle of the Middle Ages. In this struggle for supremacy in the Holy Roman Empire, the German King Adolf von Nassau fell. A cross was erected at the place of his death, the oldest field cross in the Palatinate. In the years 1836-1839, after multiple vandalism, the cross was rebuilt with a small chapel in his memory, which today is the starting point of numerous events in Göllheim.
  • 7  Ludwigshalle. This monumental structure in the style of a Greek temple in the middle of the stump forest was erected in 1890 in honor of King Ludwig II of Bavaria.

  • 8  Uhl's house, Hauptstrasse 7. The Uhl'sche Haus is the local museum of the local community of Göllheim. The focus is on geological finds from the Tertiary, the knight battle of Göllheim and the history of the place.Open: Tue and Thu 2.30pm-4.30pm and Sun 3.00-5.00pm.Price: free entry.
  • 9  Dachsberg Geopark. In a former quarry north of the village, geology, flora and fauna from the early history of the earth as well as the history of cement production in Göllheim are illustrated on a circular route. Access is possible around the clock.

  • To go biking: 1 Start point Stoppomat A nearly 6 km long leads from Königskreuzstraße (crossing Gutenbergstraße) to the radio tower behind the Göllheimer house Stoppomat-Route. 2 Stopomat target point The route leads over a country road that is very narrow in places, but with little traffic.
