background

Today's community was only created in 1975 through the merger of the two previously independent communities Großsachsen and Leutershausen on Bergstrasse. Traces of settlement from the Celtic period and a Roman estate near Greater Saxony are the earliest traces of settlement. Greater Saxony was first mentioned in a document in 779 and Leutershausen in 877. The remains of two castles still bear witness to the local rule of the Hirschburger in the Middle Ages. After the destruction in the Palatinate War of Succession, the family of the Counts of Wiser acquired possession, after 1806 Leutershausen and Greater Saxony became Baden. Today the wine-growing community belongs to the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis.
