Geographical notes

Isola Bella is exposed to the "four winds". On the Lake Maggiore, the winds have their name that distinguishes them by origin: the Mergozzo it comes from the nearby lake of the same name and runs along the western shore; the Major blows impetuously from the Switzerland on the eastern shore; the inverna moving in the opposite direction to the Mergozzo, slightly ripples the lake and is said to bring good weather.

What see

The Fantastic Gardens

The palace

The baroque palace is a continuous and rich succession of furnished rooms and paintings by well-known artists including Luca Giordano, Francesco Zuccarelli, Pieter Mulier. The rooms are refined and regal, enriched by fine furniture, neoclassical stuccoes, marble, sculptures and 15th century tapestries.

The gardens

The Isola Bella Garden is considered the most splendid and grandiose example of an Italian Baroque garden. There are many plant species also of exotic origin, among which white peacocks roam. Among azaleas and rhododendrons, espaliers of grapefruits and bitter oranges, orchids and carnivorous plants, the silhouette of a large camphor over two hundred years old stands out.
