This itinerary leads from Jakarta on the Indonesian island Java east over Bali to Lombok. Depending on the number of stopovers, you should plan four to six weeks (note the visa validity!).

This route is the classic among Indonesia- travelers. It contains the main attractions of the country. The tourist infrastructure is very well developed and fully geared towards backpackers and mass tourism is ubiquitous, especially on Bali and the Gili Islands off Lombok.
Java
Of Jakarta it goes by train or bus in a south-easterly direction Bogor, a suburb of Jakarta with a botanical garden above the mountain town Cipanas at the foot of the volcano Papadayan to the beach town Pangandaran on the Javanese south coast. After a few relaxing days you can go to (again by bus or train) Yogyakarta set off, the cultural center of the island. The world's largest Buddhist and Hindu buildings are located here Borobudur and the Prambanan and the volcano Merapi.
East of Yogyakarta lure the volcanoes Gunung Bromo and Kawah Ijen Crowds of tourists who visit the picture-perfect volcano Bromo or the world's largest acid lake in the crater of Ijen. After about two weeks on Java you get to the port Ketapang, from where the ferry to Bali starts.
Bali
The atmosphere on the Buddhist island Bali is more relaxed than on the predominantly Muslim neighboring islands of Java and Lombok. A few kilometers from the ferry terminal in Gilimanuk you get to the village Pemuteran with long sandy beaches and an offshore marine national park. We continue to the heart of the island, the city Ubud from where you can take day trips, e.g. to the surrounding sights or even Tanah Lot can make. Because the island is small and the streets are comparatively well developed, you can get from A to B quickly. Anyone who has come to party in the extreme south of the island Kuta correct. The capital of Bali Denpasar is only relevant because of its airport. The journey then continues eastwards Padangbaiwhere ferries go to Lombok and speedboats to the Gili Islands translate. You can either go for the convenient, fast and expensive option right after Gili Trawangan choose the slow ferry after Lembar and prefer the sights of Lombok.
Gili Islands
The Gilis are three Lombok offshore islands with good swimming and snorkeling opportunities. The infrastructure on the Gilis is in no way inferior to Bali. Connections to the "mainland" Lombok exist via the port of Alarm.
Lombok
Lombok is Bali's little brother, who is not yet so well developed for tourism. The island offers trekking opportunities to the volcano Gunung Rinjani, many lonely sandy bays Sengigi or Kuta Lombok and is the starting point for many sailing cruises if you continue on that Small Sunda IslandsFlores and Komodo want. The airport can be reached by bus from all over the island (also as a combined package with the boat from the Gilis) and has connections to all of Indonesia included Jakarta and cities like Kuala Lumpur or Singapore in program. This route ends here.
