Jesolo is a city in Veneto or a seaside resort on the Adriatic.

background

Jesolo is a city on the Adriatic coast. The original place is about 2 km from the coast and borders San Donà di Piave, however, is more important for tourism Lido di Jesolo, a 15 km long coastal strip. Its golden brown sandy beach is also suitable for families with children. The mouth of the river Sile forms the border to the neighboring city in the southwest Cavallino-Treporti, in the northeast is the Piave the limit to Eraclea and the wetland of the Laguna del Mort.

Jesolo and the neighboring beach resorts were very popular vacation spots for Viennese since the beginning of mass motorization in the 1960s, because they were the closest and easiest to reach seaside resorts. Due to the mass influx of holidaymakers from the Austrian middle and lower classes, the name established itself for these beach resorts from the 1970s onwards Caretaker Beach. Even if the holiday destinations of Austrians have gradually diversified since the 1990s, you can still find a disproportionate share of Austrian tourists in Jesolo, which is also reflected in the selection of goods in the shops (e.g. fake football suits from Austrian clubs that are otherwise not in Italy are available).
