Ketzin / Havel is a city in the east Havelland. The city is located in the immediate vicinity of Potsdam and about 40 km from Berlin.

background

Ketzin is a small town in Brandenburg and lies on the lower Havel between Potsdam and Brandenburg on the Havel. The city was first mentioned in 1197 and existed in the Middle Ages mainly as a city of fishermen and ferrymen. As a part of Ketzin, Paretz is very well known, especially because of the castle located there, which was built as a country castle for Queen Luise.

Ketzin does not have a rail connection where regular passenger traffic takes place. The nearest train stations are Marquardt (10 km), Wustermark (14 km), Nauen (20 km) and Potsdam Hbf (20 km). The Marquardt, Nauen and Potsdam Hbf train stations are served by local bus services and are therefore the best train stations for traveling to Ketzin. The best connection from Berlin is achieved by using the S-Bahn to Potsdam Hbf and then taking the bus.

In the street

Ketzin can be on the Autobahn A10 (Berliner Ring) can be reached. The next junction is Potsdam Nord, about 8 km from the city center. Alternatively, you can also use the Phöben junction, also on the A10, to take the car across to Ketzin (see the following section). This form of arrival is quite scenic.

There are smaller country roads between the towns, the development of which varies considerably, but is generally sufficient. The most important roads are the road from Ketzin to Falkenrehde, via which you get to Wustermark, and the road from Ketzin to Nauen.

mobility

Map of Ketzin

Due to the village structure of many suburbs of Ketzin, a car is ideal for exploring the urban area of Ketzin. The conditions already described under Arrival apply for this. In some places, the through-town consists of cobblestone streets, so the driving style should be adapted to this.

The most important suburbs of Ketzin can be visited with the regular bus service during the week. However, the bus network is heavily geared towards the needs of commuters to Potsdam and school traffic and is therefore only partially recommended for exploring the individual locations.
Since the distances between most of the suburbs are not particularly great (2-6 km), exploring the urban area by bike is also an option. The rather flat topography and a network of cycle paths along the streets, as well as rather quiet side streets, are beneficial for this.
