Regular events

  • The Tree blossom festival in Werder (Havel) has been held since 1879 and is one of the largest folk festivals in Germany. It is celebrated the week around May 1st and attracts several hundred thousand visitors.
  • On the Beetzsee are regular Regattas the rowers and canoeists carried out.

kitchen

There are numerous bodies of water in Havelland, so the range of local freshwater fish is correspondingly large, and they are also offered in local restaurants. Havelzander is on almost every menu in Havelland. However, one should not assume that the pikeperch actually still comes from the Havel and would be caught by the local fisherman.

Due to the mild climate in the Havelland fruit cultivated, it is one of the largest fruit-growing areas in Germany. Fruit wines are made, but the fruit is also sold fresh seasonally.

shop

The choice of shopping options is still very limited in places; Especially on Saturdays, the legally possible opening times are by no means exhausted.

nightlife

As everywhere, the offer in the predominantly rural area is quite sparse. There are offers in the cities of Potsdam, Brandenburg / Havel and of course Berlin.

In the western Havelland, between Rathenow and the state border with Saxony-Anhalt, the nights are darker than elsewhere due to sparse settlements and sparse infrastructure. This leads to a nightlife of its own kind: stargazers armed with telescopes and look for the best (darkest) observation points. This has meanwhile been ennobled by the International Dark Sky Association (IDA) as the first star park in Germany.

climate

The Havelland is located in the transition area between the oceanic climate in Western Europe and the continental climate in the east. The sun shines for an average of 1600 hours a year.
