The Mecklenburg Lake District is a region in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Roughly speaking, it extends in the south of the state Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania from southeast to northwest; in the north-east joins the "back country of the Mecklenburg Lake District", in which rivers, lakes and mostly somewhat higher elevations can be found between Warnow and Tollense.
In recent years tourism in the Mecklenburg Lake District region has experienced a strong boom, especially among nature lovers.

The Mecklenburg Seeplatte was created in the Glacial Vistula, a large area of glaciers abraded the surface of the land and formed valleys with channel lakes, which are connected by narrow passages or rivers, sometimes strung like pearls on a string. To the northeast, the strip of land is bounded by the terminal moraine of the glacier, which created a range of hills from a height of 120 to 150 m, from the Hohe Burg, the area around Sternberg, the Kalkbergs northwest of Waren, the Keulenberg to the Feldberg (Mecklenburg) . With the train it is best to arrive via the train stations Neustrelitz, Were or Kratzeburg (directly in the Müritz National Park) possible. At all of the stations mentioned stops the regional express RE 5whose trains run one to two hourly from Berlin, Rostock (and Stralsund). Some long-distance trains on the Rostock - Berlin route, including those in the direction of Munich or Dresden and Prague, also stop in Neustrelitz or Waren (although not all of them daily).
From Hamburg you can only reach the lake district with several changes or detours via Güstrow.

In the summer months the National park bus of Were via Speck, the Zartwitzer Kreuz and Boek to Rechlin, the route through the national park area is closed to private car traffic. Rafts, various motor yachts, canoes or paddle boats can be rented at numerous bases. For motorboats, the waterways Obere Havel, Müritz-Havel, the Kammerkanal or Müritz-Elde are ideal, and the route continues just beyond the Brandenburg border with the Rheinsberger or Lychener waters. In addition, the Fürstenberger or Feldberger lakes, the Alte Fahrt between Mirow and the Müritz waters can be paddled with the paddle boat.
