background

The Mecklenburg Seeplatte was created in the Glacial Vistula, a large area of glaciers abraded the surface of the land and formed valleys with channel lakes, which are connected by narrow passages or rivers, sometimes strung like pearls on a string. To the northeast, the strip of land is bounded by the terminal moraine of the glacier, which created a range of hills from a height of 120 to 150 m, from the Hohe Burg, the area around Sternberg, the Kalkbergs northwest of Waren, the Keulenberg to the Feldberg (Mecklenburg) . The watercourses and lakes located here naturally belong to the back country of the Mecklenburg Lake District, but are partly combined to form the "Mecklenburg Lake District" for reasons of tourist marketing.
