Kudat is a city in the Malaysian state Sabah. The administrative center of the division of the same name is located at the northern end of Borneo, about 190 kilometers from the Sabah capital Kota Kinabalu away. From Kudat it is not far to the Northern tip of Borneo

The city was founded on December 7, 1881 as the capital of British North Borneo. The capital was later moved to Sandakan, and the population consists largely of Rungus, a subgroup of the indigenous Kadazan. There are also 10% Chinese and a number of local minorities such as the Bajau, Dusun, Murut, Bugis and Malay. Due to its proximity to the Philippines, there is also a notable amount of immigrants here.
getting there
- The street A1 lead from Kota Kinabalu from over Kota Belud after Kudat. The journey time is approx. 3 hours. Cars with up to 8 seats cost around RM 25.00 for the journey. Car services cost up to RM 200.00
- There are connections with that bus to Kota Kinabalu Departure is at the City Bus Terminal in Inanam Township, Jalan Tuaran. (RM 18.00)
- Kudat has a small airport. MASwings flies the route on Mondays and Thursdays Kota Kinabalu → Kudat → Sandakan and back.
