Tawau is the third largest city in Sabah Sabah, the malaysian State in the north of the island Borneo. It's a relatively new city that boomed in the early 1980s due to its timber and cocoa economies. Today it is a busy city and the starting point for the islands off the east coast of Borneo, such as Sebatik, Nunukan, Tarakan, Jolo and the Semporna Islands.

By plane
- 1 Tawau International Airport (IATA: TWU).
actually Sabah's second international airport. Mainly there are only local flights, so from Kuala Lumpur (2 hours 45 minutes, daily) and Kota Kinabalu (45 minutes, daily) through Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia. ).
MASwings provides a daily connection with Sandakan (40 minutes). The airport is located 33 kilometers from the city. There are money changers and machines at the terminal. If you arrive late, these may already be closed. If you want to be on the safe side, you should already have a few ringgits for the bus or taxi with you. Taxis charge RM 45 for a trip between the airport and the city.

There are a number of diving opportunities in the region around Tawau.

There are a number of doctor's offices and dentists in the city. Most of them are open until 5 p.m. some until 10 p.m. Clinic Famili has 5 branches around and in Tawaw with various specialists. The branch at Kompleks Tanjung is open until 10:00 p.m. Further ambulances are located in Sabindo Square (open until 8:00 p.m.).
