Limburg (Belgium) - the province in the Northeast Belgium, we Flanders. It is situated on the left bank of the Meuse. Its capital city is Hasselt.
It borders with The Netherlands and provinces: Liège, Flemish Brabant and Antwerp. It covers an area of 2,414 km² and is inhabited by 809,942 inhabitants (2005).
The province is divided into 3 districts (Hasselt, Maaseik and Tongeren) and 44 municipalities.
In the years 1815-1830 it was part of the Dutch province that encompassed the entire historic Limburg. In 1839, Limburg was divided into Belgian and Dutch parts.
