Marienthal

Marienthal is a district of the community of Seelbach and a place of pilgrimage in Altenkirchen district (Westerwald) in Rhineland-Palatinate.

The most famous landmark of the place is the former Franciscan monastery, which existed from 1666 to 1803 and then again from 1892 to 1974. The former monastery was then converted into an educational facility for the Archdiocese of Cologne, which was closed in 2014. A tenant has been running a monastery restaurant with conference facilities in the building since 2016. In the former house chapel of the monastery there is a branch of the registry office of the Hamm / Sieg community.

In the pilgrimage church “To the Sorrowful Mother” below the former monastery, a miraculous image of Mary, the mother of Jesus, is venerated. Church services continue to take place here on a regular basis.

Marienthal is part of the community of Seelbach bei Hamm (Sieg) in the Verbandsgemeinde Hamm (Sieg) in the district of Altenkirchen (Westerwald).
