Metzingen is a city at the foot of the Swabian Alb.
background
The city of Metzingen is located in the Erms valley on the Albtrauf. Textile processing and tannery were the typical crafts for Metzingen and the region in the 18th century. In the age of industrialization, textile factories emerged from this. Probably the best known today is the company Hugo Boss, it was founded in 1924 and initially produced workwear. Today Metzingen is the national destination of bargain hunters who are primarily looking for inexpensive clothing and shoes in the outlet centers.
Since the municipal reform in 1970, the towns of Glems and Neuhausen have been districts of Metzingen, which was elevated to a major district town in 1990.
