Micigliano is a city of Lazio.
To know
Geographical notes
It is located on the eastern side of the Mount Terminillo, along the slopes of Mount Elefante (2,015m), at a rather high altitude (925 s.l.m. the lower part, 1005 s.l.m. the upper part) dominating the underlying Velino Gorges.
Background
The Miciglianese territory, although it was already inhabited in ancient times thanks to some archaeological finds, is mentioned for the first time in the mid-10th century in a document that recalls the Abbey of Farfa had acquired land "in locus qui nominatur Micilianus". With the nearby castles of Cesura and Vischiata, Micigliano was a fief of the Abbey of S.S. Quirico and Giulitta built by the Benedictines in the same period. In 1229 Frederick II of Swabia occupied the abbey territories. The ecclesiastical fiefdom was abolished at the beginning of the 19th century. Some ruins of the surrounding walls and houses are visible from the Vischiata settlement.

Itineraries
A driveway, built on an ancient mule track through excavation in the course of the year 2000, uncomfortable, with a rather tortuous path, passable on foot, on horseback and by MTB and generally covered with snow in winter, connects the town of Micigliano with di Sella di Leonessa (1901 m asl), going up the slopes of Monte Elefante (2.015 m) and creating a nature trail of exceptional panoramic views, ranging from the view of the Terminillo peak to the underlying Velino Gorges, on the mountain groups of Monte Giano , Monte Nuria and Monte Calvo, up to the Sirente-Velino chain and discovering, in some places, even the peaks of the Gran Sasso and the Laga mountains.
