Tourist Attractions
The plant belongs to UNESCO world cultural heritage
- 1 Northern platform (Plataforma Norte). large, high platform with various structures (possibly temples) on top.
- 2 Ball playground (Juego de Pelota Grande). The Zapotecs used a completely different plan for the ball courts than did the Mayans on their grounds in Cobá or Chichen Itza.
- 3 Los Danzantes (Plaza de los Danzantes). A group of structures known for their fascinating Olmec carvings of people in various strange positions.
- 4 Building J (Monticulo J / Edificio J). The unusual location and architectural details suggest that the building was an astronomical observatory.
- 5 South Platform (Plataforma Sur). A very large pyramid with an open space on top.
- 6 Tomb 7 (Tumba 7). Mexican archaeologists discovered the treasure-filled tomb in the early 1930s.
- 7 Museo del Sitio del Monte Albán. The Monte Albán Museum is modern, attractive and well worth a visit. It has some excellent interpretive exhibits, as well as a number of relics excavated on the site in the early 20th century. A highlight of the museum is the collection of steles. A note: in the museum, all of the labels are in Spanish. Here you will also find toilets, a small bookstore and a café.
