background

The Slavic ramparts of Bochotnica had been in place of today's parish church since the 8th century. The place was first mentioned in a document in 1398 as part of a sales contract. In 1772 the Małachowski Palace was completed in the classical style and the place was renamed Nałęczów after the owner's coat of arms. In 1795 the town came to the Habsburgs in the course of the third division of Poland, to the Duchy of Warsaw in 1809 and to the Tsarist Empire after the Congress of Vienna as part of Congress Poland. The medicinal waters were discovered at the beginning of the 19th century. The place received its status as a health resort in the second half of the 19th century. By the turn of the century, it was already very popular and numerous prominent writers cured here. In 1963 the place received city rights.
