Understand

Its occupation is old. The Publémont hill was included in the X^e century in the first walled enclosure of the city and was the first fortress of the bishops of Liège. There are also several mansions of the XVII^e and XVIII^e centuries. Saint-Laurent, Sainte-Marguerite and Sainte-Walburge are the oldest suburbs of the Mosane city. Thiers-Liège, more recent, was a very active coal mining center as can still be seen from the presence in the landscape of numerous slag heaps.
